Notice to Parents: Medication

Wed 22 Jan 2025
IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL PARENTS

If you need to send medication into school, including paracetamol, this must now be linked to a medical condition. Staff who are responsible for administering medication will need to see supporting evidence i.e. a letter from your child's GP or a hospital letter before your child's medication can be stored in our medical room. This applies to usage of both short and long-term medication.

Also, for each medication brought into school, you will need to complete a Medication Administration form and ensure it is handed in at reception or in the medical room. These forms can be collected from reception or from the medical room. The rules have changed and a form is now required to be completed each time a new pack of medication is brought into school, even if it is a new pack of the same type of medication stored previously in the medical room.

If medication is brought into school by your child, we will store it in a safe place, but we will not be allowed to administer it. until we have a permission form completed by yourself or another adult who has responsibility for your child.

We realise that completing a form each time you send in medication may be an inconvenience, however it is necessary so that we can effectively safeguard all our children and ensure that our medicine recording systems remain as accurate as possible.

Can we please remind all parents and carers that it is forbidden for students to have medication on their person in school. All medication must be handed in either at reception or the medical room as a safeguarding measure as soon as they arrive in school.

Many thanks for your cooperation in this matter. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the academy on 01226 717730 or via email at enquiries@shafton.outwood.com
