For Parents / Carers of Year 11

Thank you for your support over the last five years, whilst your child has been at Outwood Academy Shafton. As we move into the final week, where Year 11 will attend the Academy as normal, I wanted to share with you the plans we have for this week.

Thursday 27 May will be a full day in the Academy, and we will have celebrations outside on the school grounds between 3-5pm. This will be a fabulous opportunity for staff and students to share memories and enjoy their final moments in the Academy together. We will be providing a buffet and there will be music and outdoor games. We will also issue leavers hoodies at the event to the students who have purchased them.  We appreciate that students may not wish to stay in their uniform for this event, so should they wish to bring a change of appropriate outdoor clothes with them to school on Thursday, they may bring this and get changed out of their uniform at 2:30pm. They may also wish to bring blankets for sitting outside which they can leave in my office in the morning.

On Friday 28 May, students should attend in full school uniform; anyone not in full uniform will be sent home. As this is the student’s last normal day in the Academy, they will be able to sign their school shirts, should they wish, so they may want to bring a suitable shirt signing pen. Friday will be a shortened school day and all Y11 students will leave the site at 12pm, following lunch which we will serve as normal.

We will communicate the format of GCSE Results Day (Thursday 12 August 2021) closer to the date.

I am so proud to have been the Y11 Learning Manager during your child’s final year at the Academy. Despite how tough the past 12 months have been for us all, the students have shown amazing dedication and resilience to achieve the best they can in all of their subject areas and have made us all really proud. I wish them every success with their onward Post 16 journey.

Yours faithfully,
