Y11: New College Pontefract Taster Day

Dear Parent/Carer,

 

As you may already be aware, subject to government guidelines on Covid restrictions easing, your son/daughter has been given the fantastic opportunity to visit New College Pontefract and experience a Taster Day. The date of the Taster Day is Thursday 2 December 2021. A coach will collect pupils from school and return them in time for the end of the school day.

 

The idea behind the Taster Day is for all students who are considering New College as a post-16 option (or would like to know more about a sixth form college) to be able to experience the College first hand before making their important choices early in Year 11.  Students will receive a welcome from the Vice Principal, Neil Mumby, and the Principal, Vicky Marks.  They will then experience four subject sessions, which they will have selected in advance of the day.  The fifth session of the day will be a Pathway to Progression Tutorial, which will focus on the different career options available and the steps to take to achieve it.

On the day, students are not required to wear school uniform and are advised to bring a pen. Lunch will be provided by the College, but if students would like to purchase refreshments at break they will require some money.

 

I am confident this will be a valid experience for your son/daughter and hopefully play a part in the decision process of which post-16 option is right for them.  It will also help them in terms of which A Levels/Applied General Courses they will choose to study post-16 and help them to consider their career options.
