Letter to Parents: Uniform Standards

24 June 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

We said goodbye to our Y11 this week and we are so proud of the resilience, dedication and commitment they have shown.

We now refocus on working with our other year groups to step up and prepare for the next academic year.

Y10 students have received an assembly preparing them for Y11 and they are already making us exceptionally proud completing their assessments.

Y9 prepares to graduate with exciting plans to be shared for their ceremony and celebration.

Y7 and Y8 work hard to graduate through their ACE awards.  Y7 has already moved lunchtimes so that we are able to welcome our Y6 students for transition.

It is an exciting time and one that enables us to ensure we hit the ground running in September.

I recognise that it is important to students, families, the wider community and our academy that we maintain good uniform standards. May I please ask for you to continue to support in ensuring that uniform is worn correctly, i.e. no rolling over of waistbands on skirts.  This became a real concern last half term, resulting in some difficult conversations about the appropriate lengths of skirts and so we made this a key area for improvement in our uniform. The impact of your commitment and support was noticeable immediately.

In addition we will now focus on jewellery ensuring that all jewellery is removed before entering the Academy.

During the last few weeks of the Summer term we will be focused on ensuring that our uniform standards are maintained and that our academy uniform is worn correctly. I appreciate the support that you can give us in maintaining those standards as this helps to prepare us for September.

From Monday 27 July 2022, students will be given an initial reminder on arrival at the academy to ensure that uniform is worn correctly.  The rolling over of skirt waistbands and the wearing of jewellery, from this stage onwards, once students enter the academy will result in a C4B one hour detention after school at 2:30.

We have a great opportunity this term to work together with our young people, your children, in getting the small things right so that we can focus on the big things.

Our last few weeks will be filled with celebrations and together we continue to maintain standards and celebrate our young people's achievements.

Yours faithfully,

Alison McQueen
