Year 11 Parents

Tue 31 Jan 2023
Dear Parents/Carers,

I would like to share with you that our Year 11 students have made a brilliant start to the new year. Teaching staff and Senior Leaders have been delighted by the focus and commitment shown in lessons, attendance for enrichment is the highest it has been all year and engagement in home studying has been fantastic. I would like to thank all parents/carers for their ongoing support as we approach their most important time whilst at Outwood Academy Shafton.

Whilst our Year 11 students will feel an increase in pressure over the next few months, I would like to make you aware of some of the incentives and key dates that will be coming up before the end of the school year.

The Year 11 Prom will be held on Thursday 22nd June at Burntwood Hotel, followed by the Prom Breakfast on Friday 23rd of June. You will receive further information closer to this time but preparations for these celebrations are well underway. This year we have been able to offer a free Prom ticket for any Year 11 student  that completes their Prom Passport. We are extremely excited to offer this and hope this will engage students and families to really make the most of the months before their GCSE exams start in full. To complete a passport, students have to complete the following targets;

  • Attend 30 enrichment sessions
  • Attend 10 full weeks in school
  • Achieve 40 praise points
  • Complete 6 holiday homework packs
  • Achieve 5 Random Acts of Kindness

Alongside this we have a number of other incentives where hard work will be rewarded along the way. We have enrichment loyalty cards, a revision trolley containing resources for every subject, breakfast provided before the March Mocks and Summer exams and hot drinks available to students every Wednesday between 08:00 - 08:20.

There is also a calendar available on the academy website and in students' Google Classroom which highlights all of the key dates between now and Prom Breakfast.

There are only 20 weeks until we say goodbye to this wonderful group of students and I hope all of them will make the most of this time.

Yours sincerely,

Joe Turner
