From Monday your child will start the Key Stage 4 element of their 5 year journey at Outwood Academy Shafton. Every second counts and because we believe so strongly in this, this week we held your child’s first assembly as Year 10 in which we spoke to all students about what they have in store in their final two years at Shafton as well as the high expectations we will have of them.
In order to reach their academic goals, students must forge habits of excellence and from Monday we will expect our current Year 9s to demonstrate these habits of excellence that we see as our Basics for Learning:
The Basics for Learning mean that every student no matter their background is fully prepared to achieve in their lessons and focus fully on the knowledge that is being taught.
In order to ensure all students can meet these basic expectations we will remove all barriers on Monday by ensuring that all of our current Year 9s who need them on Monday will be given stocked pencil cases and temporary planners. Should students not do the ‘basics’ in terms of preparation for learning from Monday onwards, we want to ensure there is clarity that a sanction will be a certainty and we ask for your support in ensuring that your child arrives on time and ready to take on the challenge of Year 10. If we get the basics right, then all of our focus and attention is learning and that is what will transform lives.
Uniforms must meet our expectations. This includes not wearing any jewellery and wearing the appropriate skirt and shoes. All students must wear ties. Unfortunately we will have to send any students home to correct uniform issues and then they will be welcomed back on their return. As always, all students must have a bag to store their essentials and this must be big enough to hold revision books and resources.
We have the highest expectations of every student that walks through our doors because we know that there is no ceiling to what our students can achieve. We ask for your full support and backing in our mission to ensure that your child has the best possible chance of real success at Key Stage 4.
