Letter to Parents: October 2023

Tue 10 Oct 2023
Dear Parents and Carers,

I am writing to thank you for your support in ensuring that students attend the academy looking smart in their uniform and with the equipment that they need.

Since we returned in September we have already had some wonderful events including our MacMillan Coffee afternoon, our Arts visit to London and our Year 6 Open Evening to name a few. A huge thanks to our Student Voice team for their incredible support and organisation in relation to our internal events.

You will be aware that we changed our school uniform policy a year ago, in line with the Government guidance, so that we offer a logo and a non-logo option. Our Uniform Guide and Uniform Policy can be found on our website.

I would like your support in ensuring that our students, your children, wear our uniform correctly. We are spending a significant amount of time each day checking uniform, making sure that our policy is being up-held and ensuring that our students look as smart as possible. In particular, we would like your support in ensuring that skirts are worn appropriately and are not rolled over or under at the waistband or tied with an elastic band or bobble at the back; skirts must be a minimum of 18 inches in length.  I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that jewellery is not permitted to be worn, the only item of jewellery that may be worn is a wristwatch or Medic Alert item.

We endeavour to support students as much as possible with uniform loans and I would be grateful if you could promptly return any items of uniform that have been borrowed. I also need to inform you that the cost of replacement ties has increased to £6.50.

Your support is important and incredibly valued as we continue to drive standards and raise our expectations for your children.

We have our Key Stage 4 Careers Fair on Thursday 19 October 2023, 4 – 7pm; it would be wonderful to see students and their families engaging with employers, getting advice and speaking with further education providers.

During our final week of this half term, our Student Voice Prime Minister candidates will be campaigning for votes, we can’t wait to share the outcome of the election with you!

A reminder that Friday 27 October 2023 is an INSET day and students are not expected in the academy, the following week is October half term break and all students are expected back in the academy on Monday 6 November 2023.

I am incredibly appreciative of your continued support.

Yours faithfully,

Alison McQueen
Principal
