Dear Parents and Carers,
Home Learning is an important part of recalling information that has been learnt in class and has been proven to improve outcomes at GCSE and beyond. This year the Science department is using a new home learning platform called
Seneca Learning; this will replace Educake.
We are very excited to give our students the opportunity to work with this platform as it has a mixture of taught elements, recap and questions to assess the gaps in their knowledge and understanding. It also incorporates the use of AI so that it is adaptive to the needs of individual learners and will ultimately support students to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Students should have been informed about the new home learning platform in their Science lesson this week. We are looking to set home learning tasks on Seneca from Monday 23 September. From this date, tasks will be set every Monday, and due the following Monday.
Some of you may be relieved to know that there are no usernames and passwords to remember, like with our previous home learning platform. In order to access their Seneca account, students only need to log in with their School Google account. Since Seneca Learning is a web based programme, it also has an app you can download on both Apple and Android devices.
We are also looking forward to engaging with you with your child’s home learning. Seneca has a parent platform where you can view the work that has been set by your child’s teacher and see your child’s progress. You will receive an email next week with the details of the parent platform, and how to make an account. You will also be sent reports on how your child is doing at key points in the year.
If you have any queries about Seneca Learning for Science, please email Mrs Myers at t.myers@shafton.outwood.com
Thank you for your continued support.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs T Myers (Science teacher) and Mrs C Nield (Head of Science)
