Letter to Parents: Personal Development: Anti Bullying Week

Mon 11 Nov 2024
Dear Parents and Carers,

Personal Development: Anti Bullying Week

As a part of your child’s education at Outwood Academy Shafton, we promote personal well-being and development through a comprehensive education programme. The Personal Development and RE curriculum which encompasses RSE, Health education, Citizenship and Religious Education is the personal development area that gives young people the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live safe, healthy, productive lives and meet their full potential.

Our inclusive curriculum celebrates diversity and promotes tolerance and mutual respect of others. Our academy carefully maps how our curriculum provision supports our students’ personal growth and promotes fundamental British Values; social, moral, spiritual and cultural awareness; personal, social and health education and relationship and sex education. During this week we will be supporting Anti Bullying Week’s theme of CHOOSE RESPECT. Mr Simpson will be delivering an assembly to all year groups followed by a form programme activity and literacy activity.

We have shared with you, in our Personal Development newsletter, key information in relation to advice and being united against bullying. I have taken aspects from this newsletter and reshared this here.

Our Anti Bullying Ambassadors have completed the Diana Award training before the summer holidays and have produced a news room style informative video for our Y7 students. We are very proud and thankful to our current Anti Bullying Ambassadors for taking the time to support others in the academy.

We are delighted to welcome Kirsty from CompassBe. CompassBe offer advice and support to young people in Barnsley. Kirsty will be delivering Anti Bullying Ambassador training to our students on Thursday 14 November,  2:30 - 3:30. If you would like your child to attend please complete the following google form: https://forms.gle/qpYQQnWoyZaAESVq8

Finally, Wednesday 13 November is national recognition of kindness, World Kindness Day. We will be launching our annual kindness challenges whilst also recognising Random Acts of Kindness (RAKs) during the week. We thoroughly enjoy seeing the number of RAKs every week and we can’t wait to see how many children become involved in our Kindness Challenge competition!

Yours faithfully,

Sarah Riley
