Y8 Parents: Prison Me No Way Crime and Safety Awareness Day

Thu 27 Apr 2023
Dear Parent/ Carer

Prison Me No Way Crime and Safety Awareness Day
Friday 5th May 2023

We are writing to advise that we will be staging a Crime and Safety Awareness Day (CSAD) provided by Prison! Me! No-Way! www.pmnw.co.uk to year 8 on Friday 5th May 2023. The day will complement the National Curriculum Key Stages 3 & 4 rights and responsibilities of citizens and how the law and justice are applied alongside RSE and Health Education looking at healthy relationships. Students will also learn about the causes, consequences, and impact of crime upon them and their communities.

This full day interactive learning experience will feature a variety of sessions chosen from:
  • county lines,
  • anti-social behaviour,
  • consequences of one punch,
  • prison life,
  • gun and knife crime,
  • drugs and links to crime and irresponsible behaviour,
  • young victims,
  • domestic abuse,
  • bullying, harassment and relationships,
  • child sexual exploitation online and offline,
  • consequences of social media misuse,
  • grooming,
  • railway trespassing,
  • power station/line danger and much more.

We will also have a life size replica prison cell on site and carefully selected ex-prisoners or serving volunteer prisoners will be working with students. They will share their life story and how this has impacted upon themselves, their victims, their families, and their futures.

The day will also help students to develop the skill and knowledge to think about the decisions they make and the impact of those decisions upon themselves, their family, their friends, and their community. Sessions provided over almost 30 years of PMNW, are known to have helped shape future career choices, divert young people away from crime, reduce risky behaviour, stay safe, make better choices, know where to turn for help and, understand the value of leading a lawful and productive life.

PMNW is a credible, popular, and highly sought-after programme and currently provides over 130 CSAD’s annually working face to face with over 40,000 young people.

Personal Development is a key area of students’ preparation for their future lives.  Being involved in a variety of experiences, workshops and working with external providers enriches their curriculum and we value your support. If you would like any further information regarding the Crime and Safety Awareness day led by Prison Me No Way please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Riley on 01226 717730 or via email s.riley@shafton.outwood.com.
