Dear Parents,
This year, the Outwood Academy Trust will introduce a new system, SportSmart, that will support our schools, and staff to record and manage any injuries that occur during PE lessons or extra-curricular sports training or competitions.
The programme is delivered for free by a charity called
Podium Analytics, who are working to reduce injury in youth and grassroots sport.
SportSmart not only lets us record any incidents, but also includes a Head Injury Assessment Tool that will give staff the tools and confidence to assess a suspected concussion and take appropriate next steps, all in line with the latest UK Grassroots Concussion Guidelines.
SportSmart also allows you the ability to add any other sports clubs your child attends, via the MySportSmart app, that are signed up to SportSmart. With your permission, our staff can see if any injuries have occurred elsewhere and whether this means your child won’t be able to participate in a match or session. You can find out more

As well as the benefits to us of tracking and managing sports injuries, The SportSmart Programme includes MySportSmart.
MySportSmart is specifically designed for parents; it will share any injury reports from training sessions and matches (from organisations using SportSmart) automatically. You can add other organisations using SportSmart that your child attends, and manage what data is shared between these organisations. You will also be able to provide updates on reports if, for example, you visit a doctor or physio, helping us manage your child’s return to PE.
SportSmart Hub
Once you have an account with MySportSmart you will also be able to access the SportSmart Hub, with new, engaging content delivered to help you find out more about the key issues in youth and grassroots sport health and how to prevent, identify or manage them.
Reducing injury and keeping pupils involved in PE, and sport more broadly, is hugely important.
In order to set up the App we will need to share your name and basic contact information with Podium Analytics via a secure portal. This information has been reviewed and signed off by our Trust Data Protection Officer.
Once we have set everything up, you will receive information about how to access MySportSmart.
