Letter to Parents & Carers: Enrichment

Tue 04 Mar 2025
Dear Parent/Carer,

I am writing to remind you of the wide range of enrichment opportunities available to our students at Outwood Academy Shafton this coming term. We believe that enrichment activities play a vital role in developing students’ skills, interests, and overall well-being.

Enrichment Activities

A variety of enrichment activities are offered across the week, in addition to the curriculum. These include:

  • Subject-specific enrichments: These sessions focus on core subjects such as Maths, English, and Science, with a particular emphasis on supporting Key Stage 4 students.
  • Creative Arts: The Creative Arts department offers a range of activities, with a good proportion of SEN students involved.
  • PE: The PE department has the largest number of students attending enrichment, with a variety of sports on offer.
  • Learning Resource Centre (LRC): The LRC after-school club has seen a strong attendance, particularly from Pupil Premium students.
  • Bee Kind Club: This club focuses on mental health and well-being for all key stage groups.
  • Diversity and Wellbeing Ambassadors: This group is focused on Key Stage 3 students and runs weekly.
  • Wellbeing Champions and Anti Bullying Ambassadors (Wednesdays)
  • Other activities: The academy is looking into offering other non-subject specific enrichment activities such as external providers coming in to offer some bespoke packages including beautician enrichment, young entrepreneurs club and many more.

Competitions and Prizes

To further encourage participation, we will be running a variety of competitions throughout the term. Prizes will be awarded to those who attend enrichment activities, and will include Just Eat vouchers and Barnsley FC tickets. Further details of these will be shared with your student via the form programme.

Enrichment Timetable

The enrichment timetable can be found on our school website. Paper copies are also available for students at the main reception.

We encourage all students to take advantage of these fantastic opportunities to broaden their horizons and develop new skills.

If you have any questions about the enrichment programme, please do not hesitate to contact the academy.

Yours sincerely,

Alison McQueen
