Letter to Parents & Carers: Y7 into Y8 MFL Options

Dear Parents and Carers, 

Your child has been studying French and German at Outwood Academy Shafton in order to secure a foundation in both languages. 

As we move into Year 8, your child will specialise in a single language, either French or German. The choice that they make will determine which language they study in Year 8 and Year 9 and the language that they can choose to study for GCSE in Year 10 -11.  

We would value your support in this process; we would like you to speak to your child about this choice. Your child will shortly be receiving a Google Form where they can indicate their preference. 

We must state, however, that we cannot guarantee which language your child will study as we will always prioritise your child’s best interests, where your child is most likely to succeed, and we must factor in class sizes and setting. Therefore, if your child has no preference of which language is studied, please choose this option to help facilitate this process.

Google Forms will need to be completed by 21 March 2025 at 3pm and will be sent out in the student’s google classroom. I will also send out the link via text, but it must be completed using your child’s school email account.
